Rites Held at Woodward for Charles Keeler
Charles Keeler was born in Rock Springs, Wyo., July 23, 1879. Later he moved with his parents to Rawlins, Wyo., where he lived until the age of 15. He then came with the family to farm in Dallas county, Iowa.On Nov. 13, 1901, he was united in marriage to Clara Wilcox. To this union were born three children: one daughter, Mrs. Gordon Griffis of Estherville, and two sons: Charles, who preceded his father in death, Oct. 18, 1924; and Harold of Fort Dodge.
There were four grandchildren, one of whom gave his life while in service for his country during World War II.
In 1903 the family moved to Estherville, where Mr. Keeler was employed as an engineer by the Rock Island Railroad until his retirement in 1943.
In 1947 Mr. and Mrs. Keeler moved to Perry, Iowa, where he lived until September, 1960, when they moved to Woodward, where he has resided until his death on Sept. 13, 1954.
He was a member of the Woodward Methodist church and was affiliated with the Masonic Order, being a member of the Blue Lodge, Chapter and Commandery and of the Eastern Star.
Funeral services were held Sept. 16 at 10:00 in the Woodward Methodist church, with Rev. Warren H. Meredith officiating. Hymns were sung by Anna Cooper and Ina Beck accompanied by Mable Sturgeon at the organ.
Casket bearers were Jimmie York, Leo Myers, Fred York, Bert Myers, Roy Book and Carl Myers. Commital services were in the charge of A.F. & A.M. North Star Lodge No. 447, with interment in Oak Hill cemetery at Estherville. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, October 2, 1954)
