Relative of Robert Penn Dies in Chicago
Body Will Be Brought Here for Funeral Rites
Emerson Johnson of Chicago, Ill., brother-in-law of Robert Penn and a former resident of Estherville, died at this home Saturday evening following a heart attack, according to word received here by relatives.

Mr. Johnson was a contractor and had lived in Chicago for a number of years.

Surviving Mr. Johnson are his three married daughters and a son, all living in Chicago.

Funeral arrangements have not been completed pending arrival of the body.

Burial will be in the Oak Hill cemetery, where Mr. Johnson will be buried beside his wife. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, February 8, 1943)

Emerson Johnson Is Former Local Resident
Funeral services for Emerson Johnson of Chicago, Ill., will be held at 2 p.m. tomorrow from the Mahlum and Anderson funeral chapel with the Rev. F.W. Ortmeyer officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill cemetery.

Ambrose Emerson Johnson was born Nov. 21, 1874, in Ontario, Canada. He received his education in the public schools of Michigan. He was united in marriage July 10, 1898 to Isobel Smith Penn, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Penn of Graettinger. For a number of years the family lived in Estherville where Mr. Johnson was a contractor. He is a member of the Free Methodist church of Estherville.

Mr. Johnson died at his home in Chicago, Ill., Saturday [February 6, 1943] evening following a heart attack. He had apparently been in good health.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and one son, Charles, who died in infancy.

Mr. Johnson is survived by one son, Clarence W. Johnson, three daughters, Mrs. Paul Strey, Mrs. Thad Brownell, and Mrs. Paul McCallen, all of Chicago; and three sisters, Augusta, Lilly and Carrie, all living in Michigan. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, February 10, 1943)

Emerson Johnson Former Resident Dies In Chicago
Word has been received in Estherville by relatives of the death Saturday in Chicago of Emerson Johnson, former Estherville resident. A heart attack was the cause of his death. Mr. Johnson was a brother-in-law of Robert Penn and Mrs. John Darling. Mrs. Johnson, their sister, died in 1924.

Burial will be made in Estherville.

Four children survive Mr. Johnson’s passing. They are Clarence Williams, Mrs. Paul Strey, Mrs. Thad Brownell and Mrs. Paul McCallen all of Chicago. (Vindcator and Republican, Estherville, IA, February 11, 1943)
