Mrs. Johnston Dies after Long Illness
Mrs. Jay Johnston of Estherville died this morning after an illness of about 18 months, some of which time was spent in Holy Family hospital.

Annie Eleanor Callwell and Jay Johnston were united in marriage June 15, 1904, at Estherville and had lived here since that time. She has been a member of the Episcopal church in Estherville.

Mrs. Johnston’s father R.B. Callwell, was Emmet county surveyor and drainage engineer for many years.

Surviving are her husband and one son, Dr. G. B. Johnston, both at Estherville.

Funeral arrangements have not been completed. The family has asked that no flowers be sent. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, December 19, 1947)

Plan Private Rites
Private funeral services of Mrs. Jay Johnston for the immediate family will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Mahlum and Sandin funeral chapel. Burial will be in the Oakhil cemetery, Rev. D. Haviland of Oskaloosa will officiate. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, December 20, 1947)

Private funeral services were held on Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Mahlum and Sandin funeral chapel for Mrs. Jay Johnston. Only the immediate family was present.

Mrs. Johnston has been a resident of this city since childhood. She was the wife of Jay Johnston, for many years a business man of this city and mother of Dr. Barkley Johnston.

The remains were laid to rest in the family lot in Oak Hill cemetery. The Rev. D. Haviland, a close friend of the family, came from Oskaloosa to officiate at the ceremony. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, December 25, 1947)
