Richard Hogett Dies; Funeral To Be Saturday
Cigar Manufacturer Here for Many Years
Richard Hogett, 80, long-time Estherville resident and cigar manufacturer, died at 2:30 yesterday afternoon at Holy Family hospital of a stroke and complications.He had come to Estherville from Jefferson, Iowa, in 1910 and lived here since, operating a cigar factory up until October of this year when failing health forced him to leave the business.
Born in Fulton county, Ill., on Nov. 17, 1866, he was married in 1887 to Jennie Butler, who died in March of 1938. He moved from Illinois to Jefferson, Iowa, in 1903. He was united in marriage with Hattie Griffith on August 11, 1945.
Mr. Hogett was the third of five children, all but one of whom have preceded him in death. Survivors include his wife and sister, Mrs. Emma Barnett of Peoria, Ill.
He was affiliated with the Baptist church and the Masonic and Elks lodges.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 1:15 at his home and at 1:30 in the Baptist church, Rev. G.E. Forssell officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill cemetery. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, December 19, 1946)
