Obituary – Mrs. Henkins
Margaret Anna Shierholtz was born in Germany July 21, 1836. She departed life at the home of her son, Claus Henkins, in this city, Sunday afternoon, June 4, 1916, at the age of 79 years, 11 months and 17 days. She was married in Germany to John Henkins. To this union, one child was born, Claus Henkins, who now resides in this city. With her husband and son she came to America in 1868, and settled in Clinton county, Iowa. About twenty-five years ago she came to Estherville to make her home with her son, her husband having died about five years previous to that time. She was a life long member of the German Lutheran church, having been raised in that faith in Germany. She lived a quiet home life and was faithful to the religious teachings of her childhood until called into the realms beyond. She leaves the son above mentioned, and his family, one sister and five brothers to mourn her departure. The one sister lives in Nebraska, and the brothers live in Boone county, Iowa.

Funeral services were conducted from the house by Rev. J.S. Coffin, minister of the Christian church, Tuesday morning, at 10 o’clock, and the remains were laid to rest in Oak Hill cemetery. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, June 7, 1916)

Note: Margrett A. Henkins shares a gravestone with her daughter-in-law’s mother, Elizabeth Scott Harmon.
