Joseph Gee, 82, Dies of Heart Attack
Joseph Syril [Cyril] Gee, 82, retired farmer, now living in Estherville, died at his home in Estherville at 7 o’clock last night, after suffering a heart attack.Mr. Gee was born May 22, 1878, at Tonica, Ill., the son of Mr. and Mrs. William Gee, and received his education in Tonica area schools. He and Edna Gossman were married Jan. 1, 1902, at Brownstown, Ind., and moved to Illinois where they farmed until 1935.
They then moved to Olivia, Minn., where they farmed until Mr. Gee’s retirement in 1957, when the Gees moved to Estherville, where they have lived since then. Mr. Gee joined the Methodist Church at an early age and was a member of the First Methodist Church of Estherville.
Survivors include his wife, Edna, a daughter, Mrs. Vera Shonkwiler, of Estherville; three grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Also surviving is a sister, Catherine Gee, who lives in Storm Lake. Mr. Gee was preceded in death by his parents, one son, two daughters, and one brother.
Funeral services will be held Friday at First Methodist Church with the Rev. William R. Noland officiating. Family services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday and public services at 2 p.m. both at First Methodist Church. Friends may call at the Sternborg-Reese Funeral Home from 10 a.m. Thursday until noon Friday at which time the body will be taken to the church to lie in state until time of services. Burial will be in Oak Hill cemetery. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, March 16, 1960)
