Estherville – Services for Mrs. Jay (Lora) Howard, 99, will be Friday at 2:30 p.m. at the Fuhrman Funeral Home in Estherville with the Rev. Neal Armstrong of the Gruver Presbyterian Church officiating. Interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. She died Tuesday afternoon, Sept. 22, 1984 at Holy Family Hospital.Friends may call at the funeral home after 3 p.m. Thursday.
Lora Eva French was born Jan. 21, 1885 in Eldora, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Carter French. She moved with her family to Estherville in 1897 and attended the Estherville Schools and Business School in Chicago, Ill. After her schooling she was employed by the New York Life Insurance Co. and returned to Estherville in 1906 and was employed as a secretary at the Northern Lumber Co. On Sept. 10, 1909 she was united in marriage with Jay Howard in Estherville. He died in 1959.
Mrs. Howard was a member of the United Presbyterian Church; Daughters of the American Revolution; Order of Eastern Star; Emmet County Historical Society and P.E.O.
Survivors include three nieces: Mrs. Wirt (Florence) Culpepper, Crowley, La., Mrs. Hollis (Evalyn) Burke, Clear Lake and Lora Emily Fuchs, Campbell, Calif., and a long-time friend, Mrs. Frank (Helen) Fahron [Fahrion], Estherville.
She was preceded in death by her husband, a daughter, Marion; parents and two sisters. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, September 13, 1984)
