Death Claims H.B. Colt, Pioneer resident of Co.
The many friends of “Hank” Colt, as he desired to be termed, were shocked to learn of his death on Saturday [June 22, 1929] last at the Masonic home at Bettendorf. He had gone there only a short time before to spend his declining years. His health had been poorly for sometime past and he had given up his blacksmith shop work.

Henry Bryant Colt was born in Sycamore, Ill., April 11, 1857. He was united in marriage to Anna H. Herrick on February 12, 1882.To this union there were two daughters born, Elizabeth and Lucy.

After his death, his remains were taken to Fredericksburg for burial. On the arrival of the remains in that city, Mr. Herick, a brother of Mr. Colt’s wife, took charge of the funeral and it was held from his home.

Irwin Nichols, Chas. Fuller and T.J. Lerdall of this city represented the Masonic order of which he was a member at the funeral services.

We have had the pleasure of a close acquaintance with Mr. Colt for many years. He was an outspoken square shooter of the kind we admire. This rough side was the outside. His love for children and their love for him was an indication of the inner man of Mr. Colt’s character.

He was baptized in the Baptist church and in later life was a student of the Bible. He was extremely popular at the home as was indicated in the fine letter of the management of that institution. He will be missed by many close friends in this city. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, June 26, 1929)
