Elizabeth Colt, Beloved Local Teacher, Dies

A Memorial for Miss Colt
A memorial for Elizabeth Bolt, beloved Estherville teacher who taught for 48 years in Emmet county is being started. Persons who wish to contribute to the memorial fund may contact Bess Ralston. Friends may call at the Sternborg funeral home from 3 p.m. tomorrow until 10 a.m. Friday, when the body will be taken to the Methodist church. The body will lie in state at the church up to the time of services at 2 p.m. The casket will not be opened during and following the services. Miss Colt died at 12:45 a.m. yesterday. Attend Last Rites for Miss Colt
Out-of-town relatives and friends here Friday to attend services for Miss Elizabeth Colt, long-time Estherville teacher were Mr. and Mrs. Jack Herrick of New Hampton, Mr. and Mrs. E.B. White of Mallard, Mrs. C.J. Shaw of Cedar Falls, Miss Daisy Riddle of Charles City, Mrs. Alva Baker, Mrs. C.C. Chalstrom, Mrs. Raymond Chalstrom and Mrs. August Chalstrom, all of Spirit Lake, Mr. and Mrs. John Doolittle, Crol June and Richard of Charles City, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Nielson of Storm Lake and Mrs. Melvin Peterson of Alta. James Chalstrom, nephew of Miss Colt, was called home before completion of his final tests at the University of Iowa by the news of her death. Supt. N.E. Demoney took James back to Iowa City today to finish up and they plan to return home tonight. A friend of James’, Jim Corwin of Anamosa will return with them and spend a few days at the Chalstrom home. Mrs. Demoney accompanied her husband and James as far as Lamont to spend the day with her mother, Mrs. Snodgrass, while they make the trip to Iowa City. Also accompanying them was Mrs. Shaw, who returned to her home in Cedar Falls. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, June 15, 1953)
