Guy John Campbell Dies at 76
Guy John Campbell, 76, resident of Estherville for the past 10 years and former Swea City resident, died yesterday at 9:45 p.m. in Holy Family Hospital, his death attributed to complications of advanced age.Mr. Campbell had been in failing health for the past two years and in the hospital for 10 days.
He was born June 20, 1888, at Kirkland, Ill., the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Campbell. He came with his family to Swea City area when a boy and received his elementary schooling and graduated from high school there.
Guy Campbell and Blanche Hayden were married June 20, 1916, in Estherville. They spent their early married life in Swea City and then moved to Blue Island, Ill., where they lived for 30 years. Mr. Campbell retired in 1953 after having worked for 34 years as a Rock Island brakeman. At that time they returned to Estherville to make their home.
He was a member of the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen and of St. Patrick’s Church.
Mr. Campbell is survived by his wife, one sister, Mrs. Diamond Wilson, one niece, Mrs. Wayne Ware, all of Estherville, and another niece, Mrs. Young Yoon of Sioux City.
Preceding him in death were his parents, a half-brother and a half-sister.
Funeral services for Mr. Campbell are to be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Reese Funeral Home, the R. Rev. Msgr. James H. Duhigg officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill cemetery.
Friends may call at Reese Funeral Home from this evening at six o’clock until time of the services. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, July 6, 1964)
