Lifetime City Resident Dies at Home
Charles [Charles Monroe] Brown, 75, a lifetime resident of the Estherville area, died about 4:30 a.m. today at his home here. Cause of death is believed to have been pleurisy and uremic poisoning.

He has been seriously ill since Saturday morning and has been a semi-invalid for nearly three years.

Brown was born July 19, 1881 at Boone but came to the Estherville area when he was six weeks old with his parents in a covered wagon.

On July 24, 1912, he was married to Fern Browser [Bowser] at Storm Lake and the couple farmed for several years. About 46 years ago Brown started an ice cream business in Estherville which he managed along with his farming for several years until he quit farming and devoted his full time to the ice cream business.

In addition to his wife, Brown is survived by one son, one brother, two sisters and four grandchildren. The son is Kenneth W. of Roy, Mont. The brother is Roy J. of Landcaster [Lancaster], Calif. The sisters are Mrs. Ed (Stella) Brickson of Cherokee and Mrs. Frank (Mabel) Davis of Harrisburg, S.D. Sternborg Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements but plans have not been completed for the services. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, November 8, 1956)

Brown Rites Saturday
Funeral services for Charles Brown will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Sternborg’s Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Eugene Olson will officiate and burial will be at Oak Hill cemetery. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, November 9, 1956)
