Art West, 55, Succumbs to Heart Ailment
Arthur William West, 55, lifetime resident and well-known framer of Emmet County, died today at 5:45 a.m. at Holy Family Hospital. Mr. West was admitted to the hospital yesterday morning where death was attributed to a heart condition.

He was born May 23, 1904 on the farm located east of Estherville on Highway 9 which he has owned and operated following the death of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. William West. He received his education in the Emmet county elementary schools and Estherville High School.

On June 9, 1926 Mr. West was married to Gladys Juhl in Estherville. Since their marriage the couple had farmed in Center Township, living for several years on a farm located northwest of Gruver and then moving to the home farm.

He was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.

Mr. West is survived by his widow; three sons, Wayne and Virgil, both of Estherville, and Larry, a student at Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls; one daughter, Joyce, at home; two grandsons and one granddaughter. Also surviving his death is one sister, Mrs. Merle Landmesser, rural Estherville.

Funeral services are to be Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, the Rev. J.H. Duhigg officiating. Burial will be in St. Patrick’s Cemetery. Rosary is to be recited Friday at 8 p.m. at Sandin-Fuhrman Funeral Home. Friends may call at the funeral home from tomorrow until time of services.

Pallbearers will be Henry Peterson, Vern Von Hagen, Lowell Robinson, Alfred Kelch, Harry Anderson and Dr. E.E. Bruce.

Honorary pallbearers are Harold Howard, Loyd Houseman, George Calhan, Ralph Rouse, Ed Rienhardt and Ed Maniece. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, October 7, 1959)
