Mrs. G.K. Allen Dies; Rites Set
Mrs. G.K. (Georgia) Allen, 78, resident of Estherville for the past 60 years and widow of the editor and publisher of the former Estherville Enterprise, the late G.K. Allen, died yesterday about 4:30 p.m. at Holy Family Hospital. Mrs. Allen had been hospitalized since Wednesday, Jan. 24. Her death was attributed to pneumonia.

Georgia Bass was born June 6, 1883 at Platteville, Wis., the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Bass. She received her elementary and high school education in the Platteville schools and was a four-year graduate of the Platteville Normal College. After her graduation, she taught school at Luverne, Minn., and also taught one year in Estherville.

She was married Dec. 25, 1903 to G.K. Allen of Estherville at Madison, Wis. After their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Allen established their home here where they continued to live all through the years. Mr. Allen died Sept. 8, 1957 and Mrs. Allen later sold the family home at the corner of S. 7th St. and 1st Ave. S. to the Emmet County Farm Bureau. At the time of her death she was living in one of the Anliker apartments at S. 15th St. Place.

She also was twice grand regent of the Okamanpado Chapter, DAR; a past matron of the Order of Eastern Star and a member of the UPW.

Mrs. Allen is survived by one daughter, Margaret G. Allen of Detroit, Mich., and one son, Herbert K. Allen of Estherville; four grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, one brother and one sister.

Funeral services are to be Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Sandin-Fuhrman Funeral Home, the Rev. James K. Lyon officiating. Burial is to be in Oak Hill cemetery.

Friends may call at Sandin Fuhrman all day Wednesday and until time of services on Thursday. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, January 30, 1962)
