Mrs. A.J. Rhodes Dies at 83
Mrs. Alfred J. Rhodes, 83, died this morning at St. Charles, Mo., where she had been hospitalized for approximately two months. She had made her home in Estherville for 58 years.

She became ill this spring and went to St. Charles in May to the home of her daughter, Mrs. Fred Engle.

Mrs. Rhodes was born Katherine Mary Harvey Aug. 22, 1881, at Lake Mills, Wis. She attended public school there and was graduated from the University of Wisconsin in 1905 and taught school in Prairie du Sac, Wis., for one year.

She was married Aug. 9, 1906, to Alfred J. Rhodes and came to Estherville as a bride.

Mrs. Rhodes was a 50-year member of Chapter AY of PEO.

She is survived by one son, John H. Rhodes of Winter Park, Fla.; three daughters, Mrs. Irving Fromer (Katherine), San Francisco, Calif.; Mrs. Warren T. Johnson (Mary), Peterborough, N.H.; and Mrs. Fred F. Engle (Elizabeth), St. Charles Mo.; a sister, Mrs. Robert Richardson, Chicago; a brother, Copeland Harvey of Chicago, 11 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and two brothers.

Funeral services will be held at Fuhrman funeral home at 2 p.m. Thursday, the Rev. William R. Noland officaiitng. Burial will be in Oak Hill cemetery.

Friends may call at Fuhrman funeral Home from tomorrow evening until time of the funeral.

A cancer fund memorial is planned in her memory or friends may made contributions to a charity of their own choice. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, July 13, 1964)
