Estherville – Funeral services for Bonny Uknes, 75, of Estherville, will be held on Thursday, March 9 at 10:30 a.m. at the Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Chapel in Estherville, with the Rev. Larry Willey officiating. Interment will be at the East Side Cemetery in Estherville. She died on March 5, at USA Health Care Center in Urbandale, Iowa.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. at the Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home in Estherville.

She was born on Sept. 1, 1924 in Osceola, the daughter of Oral and Ora (Coyner) Twombley. She attended grade school in Osceola and graduated from high school on Indianola. She then attended Simpson College, where she was a member of the Delta Delta Delta Sorority, graduating with a degree in English.

She was united in marriage on July 27, 1950 to Charles Uknes in Des Moines. She taught English, Speech, Literature and Drama at Waverly, Harlan, Corning, Rock Valley, LeMars, Vinton and Estherville. She retired after 34 years of teaching. After retirement she became a housemother for the Theta Xi Fraternity at Iowa State University for four years. She returned to Estherville and lived here until moving to Des Moines in 1997 to be near her son, Lee. She enjoyed such things as reading and cooking.

She is survived by one son, Lee and his wife, Carole of Ankeny; one grandson, Bill and one granddaughter, Susan.
