Peter Johnson of Wallingford Dies of Diabetes
Peter Johnson of Wallingford passed away early Monday morning at the home of Mrs. Mary Peterson, where he has been making his home. Mr. Johnson, who was a well digger, has been suffering from diabetes for several years.

Definite funeral arrangements have not been made for the date of the services depends upon what day the road is opened up. Last rites will probably be held either Wednesday or Thursday. (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, March 3, 1936)

Short Illness Fatal to Peter Johnson
Wallingford, March 3 (Special to the Daily News) – Peter Johnson, 60 years old, for many years a resident of this community, died yesterday morning at the home of his cousin, Nels Peterson, six miles east of here. Mr. Johnson had been ill but two weeks.

Arrangements for the funeral are delayed pending opening of the highway from here to the Peterson farm. A county plow today, accompanied by shovelers, was at work on the roadway and it was xpected it would be open tonight.

The funeral is expected to be held in the Wallingford church.

Mr. Johnson, who was unmarried, is survived by a brother and two sisters. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, March 3, 1936)

Peter Johnson Funeral Will Be Tomorrow
Wallingford, March 4 (Special to the Daily News) Funeral services for Peter Johnson, 60 years old, resident of this community for many years, who died at the home of Nels Peterson early Sunday morning, are to be held there tomorrow afternoon at 1:15 p.m.

A service is also planned at the Riverside church at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Peder Nordsletten, the pastor in charge.

Interment will be made in the High Lake cemetery.

Mr. Johnson, who was unmarried, is survived by a brother and two sisters. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, March 4, 1936)

Peter L. Johnson
Peter L. Johnson was born on May 27, 1875 in High Lake Township of Emmet County, Iowa. His parents were Lewis Johnson and Carrie, born Peterson. The departed was the second child of this married couple.

In infancy Mr. Johnson was baptized in the Lutheran faith. Later on Mr. Johnson was confirmed by Rev. H. Engh in Immanuel Chruch on October 2, 1892.

The departed has lived in Emmet and Palo Alto counties all his life, with the exception of two years, 1910-1912, when he lived at Storden, Cottonwood county, Minnesota. About the age of 25 he began to drill wells in this community and in the neighboring ones and was at this work for 35 years.

He took sic for the first time during the middle of February and passed away at the home of his cousin, Nels P. Peterson, in the east part of High Lake township, on last Monday morning, March 1, 1936. He was then 60 years old, 9 months and 4 days. Death was due to Diabetes and other complications.

He is survived by a sister, Martha Sinonson at Haugesund, Norway; a brother, John L. Johnson of Graettinger; Mrs. Andrew Iverson of Wallingford and Mrs. Louise Oddson of Graettinger and by many cousins and other relatives.

The funeral was held on last Thursday, March 5th. A brief service was conducted at the Nels P. Peterson home at 1:15 p.m. The service proper was held at the Riverside Church at 2 p.m. Mr. Norman Larson sang two solos during the service and was accompanied by Mrs. I.G. Ness.

The following men, cousins of the departed, acted as the pall-bearers: Nels Johnson, Andrew Rockne, Lewis Rockne, Asher Peterson, Carl Peterson and Oscar Peterson. Interment was made in the High Lake Cemetery.

Mr. Theodore Lewison of Graettinger directed the funeral.

In addition to the floral offerings that were given there was also a gift of $4.00 donated in the memory of the late Mr. Johnson to the Beloit Orphans’ Home of Beloit, Iowa. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, March 11, 1936)
