Wallingford – Servcies for Walter (Wally) Blinkmann, 67, of rural Wallingford, are pending at Holy Family Hospital in Estherville. He died Tuesday, Dec. 7, 1993 at Holy Family Hospital. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, December 9, 1993)

Wallingford – Services for Walter “Wally” Blinkmann, 67, of Wallingford, will be held Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church, rural Estherville, with Pastor Paul Fohs officiating, interment will be in High Lake Cemetery, rural Wallingford, with full military graveside service by V.F.W. Post 3388 and American Legion Post 91, both of Estherville. He died Tuesday, Dec. 7, 1993 at Holy Family Hospital.

Friends may call at Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral home in Estherville from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday.

He was born July 24, 1926 at Chippewa Falls, Wis., the son of George and Augusta (Boehlke) Blinkmann and attended Chippewa Falls and Fairmont High School and later attended Technical School. He worked at a Fairmont jewelry store. On Oct. 29, 1950 he married Elizabeth I. Vahldieck at Worthington, Minn. The couple lived in Phoenix, Ariz. where he worked for Reynolds Aluminum, had a juke box route and was a prospector. In 1953 they moved to Ringsted and farmed; in 1957 moved to Kensett, in 1964 moved to Wallingford where he managed the telephone company retiring in 1982.

He served in the U.S. Army in World War Two from Dec. 1944 to Nov. 1946, stationed in Korea and the South Pacific. He was a member of the Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church, past church president and council member; was a scout leader. He was a member of NCOA and Disabled American Veterans.

Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth of rural Wallingford; sons: Steven of Reader, W. Va., Richard of Estherville, Raymond of Okinawa, Japan and Dr. Glenn Blinkmann of Mason City; daughters: Mrs. Anthony (Stephanie) Allen of Oklahoma City, Mrs. Melvin (Florence) Halsrud and Mrs. Gary (Brenda) Dahl of Estherville; 27 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a brother Chester of Florida; sisters: Mrs. Bill (Irene) Lewis, Seymour, Tenn. and Lillian Steffen of Fairmont.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a grandson and two brothers. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, December 11, 1993)
