Ludwig, the 13-year-old son of Ole Anderson, of Emmet township, met with an accident the 15th inst., dying the 17th. It happened in this way: A threshing crew had just quit work on the farm and a team was hitched to a wagon to go home for the night. A number of boys clambered onto the wagon, the horses started smartly and young Ludwig, who was sitting on the side of the box, was thrown under the wheel. He was not missed till the team was nearly home. Parties went back and found the boy on the ground. The wagon wheel had struck him on the breast and right side, causing internal hemorrhage. Doctors were summoned to ease the boy’s sufferings, which were intense. Nothing, however, could be done to save him and he lingered until the evening of the 17th. He was conscious to the last moments, said he was not afraid to die, and preferred to rather than suffer. Young Ludwig was a bright lad and his untimely death is lamented by a large number of friends. (Emmet County Republican, Estherville, IA, October 23, 1890)
