Ames – Edward Leslie Waldee PhD, 89, of Ames died on July 6 at his home in Ames.He was born on Jan. 25, 1910 in Wallingford, the son of Lars and Carrie (Maland) Waldee. He received his education in the rural country school and graduated from Estherville High School. He then attended Teachers Training School in Cedar Falls.
He taught rural country school and in Wallingford and Everly high schools. He served in the United States Navy during World War II.
On June 3, 1950, he was united in marriage to Bertha Faye Johnson in Poctello, Idaho. The couple moved to Logan, Utah, where he was a professor of agriculture. He then worked overseas for the State Department with the Marshall Plan for over 20 years. The couple retired and moved to Ames in 1986.
He was a founding organizer of Green Hills Alumni Retirement Home in Ames.
He is survived by his son, Chuck Waldee of Folsom, Calif.; sisters, Bernice Shonkwiler and her husband Roger of Estherville; and Agnes Olson of Binghamton, N.Y.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, one brother and one sister. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, July 20, 1999)
