Chester Torreson
Wallingford – Services for Chester Lein Torreson, 90, will be held Monday at 10:30 a.m. in the Wallingford Lutheran Church with Pastor Mark Jollivette and Pastor Virgil Anderson officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery with military service by the Wallingford American Legion Post. He died Friday, May 15, 1987 at Holy Family Hospital.

Friends may call at the Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home in Estherville from 3-9 p.m. Sunday. Masonic Service will be held at the funeral home at 7:30 p.m. Sunday.

He was born Aug. 16, 1896 at Des Moines, the son of Ole and Helen (Lein) Torreson. He attended Kirkwood Elementary School in Des Moines. On Sept. 1, 1926 he was united in marriage with Myrtle Olson at Wallingford. He worked for several firms in Des Moines before moving to Forest City and then to Wallingford area where he farmed. He entered the Navy during World War One and served from 1918-21. He farmed after the war until 1926 when he started working in the oil business. He owned and operated Torreson Oil Co. for over 50 years. He entered Good Samaritan Center in Estherville in 1986.

He was a member of the Wallingford Lutheran Church; Wallingford American Legion Post; Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3388; Masonic Lodge and Shrine.

Survivors include one son Ralph, Wallingford; two daughters, Mrs. Duane (Marilyn) Dallmann, Estherville and Mrs. Hugh (Virginia) Thompson, Spirit Lake; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandsons; one sister, Mabel Torreson, Des Moines.

He was preceded in death by his wife Oct. 17, 1986; two brothers and one sister. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, May 16, 1987)
