Estherville Native’s Rites Held
St. James, Minn. – Funeral services for a former Estherville resident, Mrs. J.M. Wolden, 85, St. James, Minn., were held Thursday, Nov. 7, at the First Lutheran Church in St. James with interment in the Riverside Cemetery in St. James.

Mrs. Wolden, the former Agnes [Bergitta] Strand, was born in Blooming Prairie, Minn., Nov. 16, 1888 to the Rev. and Mrs. S. Strand. She attended Luther Normal School at Madison, Minn., and Waldorf College at Forest City.

Mrs. Wolden taught in Wallingford until her marriage to John Magnus Wolden on June 4, 1919. The Woldens lived in rural Wallingford and then in Estherville from 1933 to 1944, when Mr. Wolden was superintendent of the former Coleman Hospital. They were members of the Estherville Lutheran Church, where she was active in church activities.

The Woldens moved from Estherville to Fairmont, Minn., and then to St. James in July of 1957. Mrs. Wolden died Nov. 4 at the St. James Hospital.

Survivors include her husband, Magnus, 94; one daughter, Mrs. John (Gertrude) Prior and one grandson, Ken Prior, both of Vista, Calif.; one granddaughter, Mrs. Mike (Sandra) Spiller and one great-granddaughter, Krista Spiller, both of Houston, Texas; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one son, Palmer, and two brothers, Olaf and Lauritz.

Mr. and Mrs. Prior and Mrs. Spiller and daughter were present at the funeral Thursday. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, November 11, 1974)
