Graettinger – Funeral services for Edward “Ed” Streit, 66, of Wallingford, will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 13, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Graettinger with Monsignor Thomas Donahoe officiating. Interment will be held at the Wallingford Lutheran Cemetery in Wallingford with full military graveside rites performed by the Wallingford American Legion. He died on June 9 at Avera Holy Family Hospital in Estherville.

Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. on Monday at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Graettinger with special vigil services at 7 p.m. at the Church.

He was born on March 26, 1934 in Whittemore the son of George and Leona (Fandel) Streit.

He graduated from the Whittemore Catholic School in 1951 and then served in the United States Army from 1953 to 1955 in Germany during the Korean Conflict.

On April 21, 1959 he was united in marriage to Elizabeth (Betty) Lammers in Graettinger. He was self-employed and owned and operated Streit Electric for over 35 years.

He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Graettinger, the Wallingford American Legion and a past member of both the Wallingford Fire Department and the Wallingford City Council.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Streit of Graettinger, two daughter, Lori Streit of Estherville and Lynette Nitchals and her husband Stan of Wallingford; one son, Doug Streit and his wife Natalie of Hartley; four grandchildren; three brothers, Bernard Streit and wife Evelyn of Gowrie, Gerald Streit and wife Ellen of West Bend and Paul Streit and wife Marilyn of Sioux City; two sisters, Mary Katherine Erpelding and husband Marvin of Whittemore and Rita Reinders and husband John of Highland, Mich. and his mother-in-law, Mrs. Margaret Lammers of Graettinger.

He was preceded in death by infant twins, his parents, one sister and one brother. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, June 10, 2000)
