Mrs. Strand, A Former Algona Girl, Is Dead
Mrs. Lauritz C. Strand, 52, of Lorimor, the former Ada [Irma] Hargreaves, Algona, died at her home Saturday, Oct. 23, following a year’s illness, and funeral services were held Monday, Oct. 25 at 7:30 p.m. at the Methodist church there.The next day the body was taken to Wallingford for burial in the family plot. Graveside rites were held at 1:30 p.m. Besides the family, friends from the Ledyard vicinity attended.
Mrs. Strand was the daughter of the late P.H. Hargreaves and the surviving Mrs. Hargreaves. She was born June 1, 1896 at Ashkum, Ill. When she was 15 the family moved to a farm near Algona and she attended grade and high school and was graduated. She was later a graduate of a Mason City business college.
Following business training the young woman was employed at Algona by the Harrington-Dickinson Law firm, the Goeders company and the Advance. She was later employed by the Farmers elevator at Hobarton.
Marriage took place March 5, 1924 at Fort Dodge to Lauritz C. Strand. The first three years the couple lived in a tenant house at the parental Hargreaves farm and Mr. Strand was a buttermaker at a creamery at Hobarton. In 1927 the Strands moved to Ledyard, where they resided 19 years, moving in 1946 to Lorimor.
The couple had three children: Phyllis, now Mrs. Lawrence Flynn, St. Paul; Norman [Nordein] and Calvin, at home. All, with the husband, survive.
Other survivors are the mother, Mrs. Clara Hargreaves, Algona; brothers Harry, Omaha, Gilbert, Algona, Phillip, Los Angeles, and John, Federalsburg, Md; and the sisters Mrs. Ralph Elbert, Algona, Mrs. K.F. Ball, Cedar Rapids; and Maxine, Omaha.
Mrs. Strand was a member of the Methodist church at Lorimor. (Kossuth County Advance, Algona, IA, November 4, 1948)
