Last Rites for Storhow Held Today
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. today at the Estherville Lutheran church for Thomas Storhow, 94, former Estherville resident, who died Wednesday at LaGrange, Ill. Services were conducted by the Rev. S. Gjerde.Mr. Storhow had been in failing health for the past 15 years and bedridden for the past 18 months. Burial was in the family plot in the Wallingford Lutheran cemetery.
Mrs. N.K. Brown was soloist for the services and pallbearers were Ernest Andresen, John Stanerson, Victor Ingvall, Nels Valen, Knut Tangeros and Andros Hanson.
The son of Thor and Ingaborg Storhow, Thomas Storhow was born on a farm near Ossian, Feb. 14, 1861. When he was a small child the family moved to a farm they had bought near Ames, where Mr. Storhow lived until he was 21 years of age. At that time he came to Estherville which continued to be his home until six and one half years ago.
On Dec. 1, 1891, Mr. Storhow was united in marriage with Dorothea Myhre. Mr. and Mrs. Storhow had celebrated their 64th anniversary last December.
Mr. Storhow at one time operated a livery stable on Sixth street, later farming a tract of land west of Estherville while still living in town. He also was deputy sheriff for a number of years at this time.
In 1910 Mr. Storhow and his family moved to the Myhre farm near Graettinger where they lived for nine years. He then bought a farm near Four Mile Lake west of Estherville where the Storhows lived until his retirement in 1930. The Storhows then lived in their home at 1115 North Fifth street until 1949 when they went to live with their daughter in LaGrange.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothea, daughter, Ada; one sister, Mrs. Mary Saboe; three grandchildren, Dorothy Larsen Rusley of Ellendale, N.C., Kenneth G. Larsen of Rolla, Mo., and Dr. J. Stanley Larsen of LaGrange, and three great-grandchildren, Jean Anna and Mark Rusley and David Larsen. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, January 14, 1956)
