Estherville – Services for Mrs. John R. (Ethel) Smith, 84, will be held Monday at 10:30 a.m. at the Christian Church with the Rev. Robert Kunz officiating. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Wallingford. She died Thursday, July 11, 1985 at the Good Samaritan Center.Friends may call at the Henry and Olson Funeral Home in Estherville after 2 p.m. Sunday.
Ethel May Reynolds was born Sept. 15, 1900 at Maesteg, Wales, and was the daughter of Levi and May Ann Reynolds. She received her education in Wales. In 1923 she was untied in marriage to Thomas Tibbits at Maesteg, the couple had one daughter, Joyce. Tibbits died later the same year. She moved to Plankington, S.D. in 1927 and was married to John R. Smith on May 9, 1928. They farmed near Stickney, S.D. before moving to the Wallingford area in 1940 where they farmed till retiring. The Smiths had one daughter, Marjorie. She was a member of the Christian Church.
Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Don (Marjorie) Richard; nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by both husbands, a daughter, Mrs. Joyce McCarthy, three sisters and two brothers. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, July 13, 1985)
