Wallingford – Funeral services for Wava Skattebo, 89, of Wallingford will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, May 26 at the Wallingford Lutheran church in Wallingford Lutheran Church in Wallingford with Pastor Jack Torgersen officiating. Interment will be held at Wallingford Lutheran Cemetery in Wallingford. She died on Tuesday, May 23 at Avera Holy Family Hospital in Estherville.

Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. on Thursday, May 25 at the Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home in Estherville.

She was born on June 26, 1910 in Gruver the daughter of Don and Etta Marie (Smith) Spaulding. She received her education in the Gruver schools graduating from Gruver High School.

On Feb. 7, 1943, she was united in marriage to Francis “Fritz” Skattebo in Jackson, Minn. She has lived in Gruver, Estherville and Wallingford her whole life.

She taught country school for a short time and also did house work for local families. She was later employed at Paris Cleaners. She enjoyed sewing and gardening.

She was a member of the Wallingford Lutheran Church and the Wallingford Lutheran Women.

She is survived by one sister-in-law, Pearl Spaulding of Estherville; three nephews, Paul Spaulding and his wife, Mary of Los Angeles, Calif., Ernest Skattebo of Wallingford and Clare Skattebo and his wife, Maxine of Ringsted and three nieces, Margaret Gunderson of Williston, N.D., Carol Kropf and her husband, Duane of Kimballton and Lenora Kropf and her husband, Richard of Ruthven.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and twin brother. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, May 24, 2000)
