Oscar Leonard "Leonard" Skattebo 1904-1919

Leonard Skattebo had been ill only three days with the Flu. He made a brave fight for life but the end came Monday [May 5, 1919]. He was the youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. K.K. Skattebo and was about fourteen years of age. To mourn his death he leaves his parents, four brothers and three sisters, besides other relatives. Leonard Skattebo, youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. K.K. Skattebo, died at the home of his parents at – on Monday afternoon. He was born in this county on April 9, 1904, and was a boy beloved by all of his school mates who will miss him. He was a boy – of all and seemed to --- in the community.

Death was as a result of a severe case of Flu followed by pneumonia. He made a desperate fight for life but the disease had fastened itself too strongly on him. The funeral services will be held from the home today and from the Wallingford church, the Rev. T. Hanson officiating, and the remains will be laid to rest in the Riverside cemetery. In a few weeks he was to have been confirmed in the Lutheran faith and members of his class will act as pall bearers. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, May 7, 1919)

The funeral services of Leonard Skattebo and Ernest Rosen [Roesen] were held at the Riverside church last Wednesday morning. A double funeral was held for them at which Rev. Hanson officiated. (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, May 14, 1919)
