Estherville – Funeral services for Roger Shonkwiler, 88, of Estherville, will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, March 25 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Estherville with Pastor Paul Weigman officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Saturday only at the church. Interment will be held at Wallingford Lutheran Cemetery with military rites by the VFW Post 3388 and American Legion Post 91 of Estherville.

He died Sunday, March 12 at his home in Estherville.

Roger McCoy Shonkwiler, the son of Simon and Lilith (Combs) Shonkwiler, was born December 16, 1917, in Spencer. Grateful for having served Roger’s life are his children, Kay Carpenter and her husband, Del of Cedar Falls; David Shonkwiler and his wife, Sally of Deforest, Wis.; Dick Shonkwiler and his wife, JoEllen of Estherville; Sam Shonkwiler and his wife, Kathy of Ames; 12 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; sister, Ann Evans of Newport Beach, Calif.; and sister-in-law, Agnes (Waldee) Olson of Big Fork, Mont.

Preceding Roger in death were his wife; granddaughter, Emily; parents; and brothers, Oliver, Richard, Lincoln, Douglas; and sisters, Virginia and Ruth. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, March 21, 2006)
