John Schubbe of Wallingford Dies; Was 60
Henry John Frederick Schubbe, 60 years old, resident of Wallingford, died last Wednesday [July 27, 1927] evening following nearly three years of continuous illness. For the past four months he has been confined to his bed in a local hospital.

Funeral services were held Saturday at the home west of Wallingford, and at the Wallingford Lutheran church. The Rev. T. Hansen and Henry Mahlum, funeral director, conducted the funeral services. The pall bearers were J.J. Kasa, O.D. Olson, K.K. Skattebo, John Morrice, John Johnson and N.H. Matson.

Henry John Frederick Schubbe was born Sept. 16, 1866, at Green Garden, Ill. Here he was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church and faith. Was united in holy wedlock to Miss Minnie Behern, March 18, 1891. Rev. Hussman performed the ceremony. This union was blessed with three children, one boy and two girls. Mr. and Mrs. Schubbe moved from Illinois to Emmet county in 1896 where they have lived since.

Leaves Many Friends
Those to mourn the loss of a dear husband, father, grandfather and brother are Mrs. Minnie Schubbe, wife; daughter, Mrs. Nettie Kathman; son, Reginald; daughters, Verna and Viola; grandchildren, Vivian, Romain and LaVaune Kathman; brothers, William Schubbe and August Schubbe, both of Peotone, Ill., and Earnest of Harvey, Ill. Mr. Schubbe’s parents and four of his sisters, Lena and Bertha Schubbe and Ida and Mrs. Emma Purdy and one brother Lewis, passed to the beyond before him.

A large host of friends, neighbors and relatives had met up to pay their last respect to Mr. Schubbe. The casket was laden with floral wreathes and bouquets given by relatives and friends. The Wallingford choir sang several beautiful and appropriate songs at the church and one at the grave. The three sisters of Mr. Schubbe from Illinois and his brother-in-law were present at the funeral. The Schubbe family has the sympathy of all for losing their husband, father and grandfather, but sorrow of this kind has to come sooner or later to all of us. May our Lord and Savior so prepare our lives here that we can meet and be together in the Eternal home that he has prepared. In that home there will be now sorrow, sickness, pain or death. (Estherville Democrat, Estherville, IA, August 3, 1927)
