Thomas Leo Walsh was born Dec. 23, 1874 [per cemetery records, 1873] near Piper City, Ill., received his schooling and grew to manhood in the Piper City community.May 5, 1905, he was united in marriage to Ellen Rellihan of the Piper City vicinity. To the couple were born five children, four sons, Vincent, Bernard, Donald, and Joseph and one daughter who died in infancy.
Mr. and Mrs. Walsh moved in 1916 from Illinois to a farm near Superior where they lived until the time of his death. Mr. Walsh was a farmer all his life and took an active interest in his community and in his church, being a member of the Catholic Holy Name society.
Mr. Walsh succumbed to hardening of the arteries, 10 p.m. Sept. 25 at his farm home south of Superior. He had been in ill health for a long time.
The requiem high mass was said for him the morning of Sept. 28 in Estherville’s St. Patrick’s church, Father Keane officiating. Burial was in Estherville’s Catholic cemetery.
Left to mourn his passing are his wife, Ellen, and his four sons, Joseph at home, Vincent of Estherville, Bernard of Spirit Lake and Donald, in the air forces at Randolph Field, Texas.
Out-of-town relatives attending the funeral were Donald from Randolph Field, a sister, Mrs. Margaret
Scholat [?] and son, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Rosendoon of Chatsworth, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Hemphill of Spencer, Miss Nora Rellihan of Sioux City, Lawrence Walsh of Gilman, Mrs. Anna Walsh of Marshfield, Wis., Mr. and Mrs. Rodman [?] Saxton of Winthrop, Minn., Mr. and Mrs. Jack Saxton of Minneapolis, Miss Jane Rellihan, Miss Margaret Rellihan and Elmer Walsh, all of Chicago, Maurice Rellihan of Peoria, Ill., Mr. and Mrs. Bert McMullen of Danforth, Ill., and Mrs. Lynn Sitzer of Piper City, Ill.
