William H. Schacherer Dies Today
William H. Schacherer, well known and long-time resident of Emmet county, died today at 5 a.m. at his home, 716 N. 9th St., after a lingering illness. He had been confined to his bed since July.

Mr. Schacherer, one of 11 brothers and sisters, was born Sept. 17, 1867, near Edgewood. He received his education there and grew to manhood on his parents’ farm.

He was married in February of 1897 to Sophia Anton and the couple lived near Edgewood for a short time after their marriage before coming to Emmet county in 1898. They farmed in the Estherville ara until 12 years ago when they retired and moved to Estherville.

Mr. Schacherer was one of the oldest members of St. Patrick’s Catholic church and also was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Holy Name Society.

Survivors include his widow; three sons, Ralph, LeRoy and Theodore, all of rural Estherville, 21 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Also surviving are one brother, Bert of Dawson, Minn., and one sister, Sister Genevieve of St. Angela’s Catholic school of Carroll.

He was preceded in death by his parents and several brothers and sisters.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 9:30 a.m. at St. Patrick’s church, the Rev. Father James H. Duhigg officiating. Burial will be in St. Patrick’s cemetery.

Rosary will be recited Thursday at 8:30 p.m. at the Sternborg Funeral Home. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, November 7, 1956)
