Emil Opelt, 86, Passes Away; Ill 18 Months
Funeral Services To Be Tomorrow Afternoon
Emil Opelt, 86, of Estherville died at 2:30 yesterday morning after an 18-month illness. During the past five weeks Mr. Opelt had been bedfast.Emil Opelt was born May 5, 1857, near Chicago, Ill. He received his schooling in Illinois and in March, 1910, he moved to Iowa. Jan. 1, 1902, he was united in marriage to Catherine [Grasser] Campisano. The couple engaged in farming from 1910 until 1928, when they retired and moved to Estherville.
Widow Survives
Mr. Opelt is preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Lena, and one son, Rinehart.He is survived by his widow, two sons, Ed and Ted Opelt; two stepsons, Louis Krier and Frank Campisano, both of Estherville; one brother and one sister, both living near Joliet, Ill.; and 11 grandchildren.
Rites at Lutheran Church
Funeral services will be held tomorrow at 2 p.m. at the Opelt home, 1127 E. Central Ave., and at 2:30 p.m. from the Immanuel Lutheran church with the Rev. K. A. Horn officiating. Burial will be made in the Catholic cemetery.Mr. Opelt had been a member of the Immanuel Lutheran church since he was a boy. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, November 26, 1943)
Two aged Estherville men, both past eighty years of age were called to their reward this week, Emil Opelt, 86, retired farmer, and Walter Wratten, retired Rock Island man. Both men had been ill for some time. Mr. Opelt’s death occurred at 2:30 a.m. Nov. 25.
Emil Opelt was born May 5, 1857 near Chicago. He resided in that community and was married on Jan. 1, 1902 to Catherine Campisano. In March, 1910, they moved to Iowa and farmed in this community until retiring in 1928 when they moved to Estherville.
Surviving Mr. Opelt’s death are his widow, two sons, Ew [Ed] and Ted Opelt, two step-sons, Louis Krier and Frank Campisano, 11 grandchildren and a sister and brother living near Joliet, Ill. One daughter Lena and a son Rinehart Opelt preceded him in death.
Mr. Opelt was a member of the Lutheran church since a boy and services were held from the Immanuel church at 2:30 p.m. Saturday after a short prayer service at the Opelt home on Central avenue at two o’clock. Rev. K.A. Horn officiated. Burial was made in the Catholic cemetery. (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, December 2, 1943)
