Saturday of the death of Waddy Loveland, retired Rock Island conductor and for many years a resident of Ellsworth. Death took place at his home in Jackson Minnesota. He had apparently been in good health all along and was starting out on a trip to Estherville Iowa with his youngest daughter. A short distance from home he became quite ill and the daughter turned the car around and arrived back at the home as death ensued. The funeral service was held at in chapel in Estherville with interment in the Estherville cemetery.Born December 11 1872 [per cemetery records, 1873] he lacked but a few days of being 70 years old. His birthplace was Hartland Ohio, where he lived the first nine years of his life. He came west with his parents in 1881, settling at Brookings SD. Later they made their home in Cazanovia SD where he helped his father, the late S. H. Loveland, in the carpenter trade. He was married December 31 1894 at Sioux Falls to Miss Kate Reiter and to them were born two sons and two daughters, now all grown ups. In 1901 he started his railroad career as a brakeman on the old Burlington Cedar Rapids & Northern, which today is part of the Rock Island system. For several years the family made their home in Ellsworth. He went from here to Estherville where he later became a conductor He was retired on pension about three years ago. His wife died some years ago and in 1938 he married Miss Agnes [Per S.D. Marriages – Agnes C. W.L. Loveland, retired Railroad man and former Estherville resident, passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. E.J. Rogers in Jackson, Minn. Saturday [December 5, 1942] at 1 p.m., following a heart attack.
Mr. Loveland was born in December 1878 at Warren, Ohio. In 1902, He married Catherine Ritter [Reiter] in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
He had been a conductor on the Rock Island since 1910 and made his home in Estherville. Previous to 1910, he lived in Minnesota.
Mr. Loveland is survived by two sons and two daughters. They are Joseph Loveland of Estherville; Mrs. J.A. Rose of Akron, Ohio; Mrs. E.J. Rogers, Jackson, Minn., and Roy Loveland of Estherville. Mrs. Loveland preceded him in death eight years ago.
Funeral services were held Wednesday at 2:30 at the Sternborg chapel. Burial was in the Catholic cemetery where Mrs. Loveland is interned. (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, December 10, 1942)
