Estherville Woman Dies; Rites Thursday
Mrs. Mathilda Omundson, 84, died at 6:30 a.m. today at Holy Family Hospital after having been hospitalized for three weeks.

She was born Sept. 26, 1884, near Bode in Humboldt County, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Andreas Chrestiansen.

She moved with her parents to Graettinger as an infant and received her education in the rural schools near Graettinger.

She was married Nov. 27, 1907, to Joseph Omundson at Graettinger.

They farmed in the Graettinger and Wallingford area until January of 1959 when they moved to Ruthven, and then to Emmetsburg in August of that year. They came to Estherville to make their home Nov. 11, 1965 and had lived here since.

Mrs. Omundson was a member of the Estherville Lutheran Church.

Mr. Omundson died Sept. 2, 1968.

Mrs. Omundson is survived by five daughters, Mrs. Albertine Sunde, Beresford, S.D.; Mrs. Elmer (Lorinda) Burkhart, Estherville; Mrs. Leonard (Josephine) Cole, Clarksville, Tenn.; Mrs. Otto (Andriena) Herrmann, Sr., and Mrs. Lyle (Rebecca) Peterson, both of Zimmerman, Minn.

There are three sons, James and Oscar of Estherville and Simon of Lexington, Mo.

Mrs. Omundson is also survived by 30 grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and 9 step=great-grandchildren.

She was the last of her own family, having been preceded in death by her parents, four brothers and six sisters.

A family service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday in the chapel at Estherville Lutheran Church.

The public funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the church with Pastor Stephen Engelstad officiating. Burial will be in Wallingford Lutheran Cemetery.

Friends may call at Reese-Henry Funeral Home after 6 p.m. Tuesday until 9 a.m. Thursday. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, January 6, 1969)

Mrs. Joseph Omundson, Former Area Resident, Died at Estherville
Mrs. Joseph (Mathilda) Omundson, 84, of Estherville, formerly of the Graettinger area, died Jan. 6 at Holy Family hospital after being a patient there for three weeks.

A family service was held Thursday at Estherville Lutheran church with Rev. Fitzgerald officiating. Burial was at Wallingford Lutheran cemetery. Pallbearers were grandsons, Ronald Omundson, John Omundson, Rodney Omundson, Michael Omundson, Larry Cole and Jerry Peterson.

She was born Sept. 26, 1884, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Chrestiansen, near Bode. She was baptized in infancy at Bode. She moved with her parents and family to Graettinger and received her education in the rural schools of the area. She was confirmed at First Lutheran church in 1898. She married Joseph Omundson by Rev. T.O. Thompson at her parent’s home. They farmed in the Graettinger and Wallingford area until Jan. 1959 when they moved to Ruthven. They moved to Emmetsburg in August, 1959 and moved to Estherville in 1965 where she has lived since. Mr. Omundson died Sept. 2, 1968.
