Wallingford Man’s Rites Held Today
Thor Nielsen, 56, of Wallingford died at his home Friday, Jan. 11.Services were held at 2 p.m. today at the Wallingford Lutheran Church with the Rev. Wesley Brodin officiating. Military graveside services were held at Riverside Cemetery, Wallingford.
Mr. Nielsen, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Niels Nielsen, was born April 2, 1917 at Ringsted. He moved with his family to the Wallingford area when he was 10 years old and received his education in the Wallingford schools, attending Wallingford High School.
He married Helen Horstad in Wallingford on July 29, 1946. He farmed in the Wallingford area for several years and had been employed at the Wallingford Elevator for several years.
Mr. Nielsen served in the Army during World War II and was a longtime member of the Wallingford Lutheran Church and Wallingford American Legion Post.
Mr. Nielsen is survived by his wife, Helen; one son, Richard of Atlanta, Ga.; two daughters, Mrs. Maurice (Natalie) Anderson, Wallingford, and Mrs. Larry (Beverly) Brix, Wallingford; his mother, Mrs. Kristine Nielsen, Wallingford; two sisters, Mrs. Melvin (Rosa) Nielsen, Ringsted, and Mrs. Nordien (Linda) Peterson, Wallingford; one brother, Bernard H. Nielsen, Estherville; and two grandsons.
He was preceded in death by his father. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, January 14, 1974)
