Lewis B. Nelson dies; services to be Saturday
Lewis B. [Berthen] Nelson, 89, Wallingford, died at 5 a.m. Wednesday [May 5, 1971] at Rosewood Manor from complications of advanced age.He was born May 27, 1881, in High Lake Township to Mr. and Mrs. Nels L. Nelson. He received his education in the High Lake school. [per earlier biography, born in Lake Mills, IA)
He was married on Feb. 23, 1903, to Petra Wolden of Wallingford. They made their home in Wallingford, where they owned a chicken hatchery. Mrs. Nelson died Oct. 8, 1961. He was a longtime member of the Wallingford Lutheran Church.
Survivors are six daughters, Mrs. Jeffrey (Bertha) Olson, Wallingford; Mrs. O.J. (Nora) Martyr, Welm, Wash.; Mrs. Palma Pool, Minneapolis, Minn.; Mrs. Gilford (Myrtle) Osher, Wallingford; Mrs. Ralph (Gladyce) Robinson, Spearfish, S.D.; Mrs. Wayne (Lilia) Bryan, Estherville; and one son, Laverne, Minneapolis, Minn.; 16 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; three brothers, James Nelson, Wallingford; Oscar Nelson, Spragueville; Oscar Nelson, Fort Dodge; and three sisters, Mrs. Sal Dybdahl, Detroit, Mich.; Mrs. Lloyd Refsell, Minneapolis, Minn.; and Alma Nelson, Emmetsburg.
He was preceded in death by his wife, two granddaughters, his parents, three brothers and one sister.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Wallingford Lutheran Church, with the Rev. John Pannkuk officiating. Burial will be in the Wallingford Cemetery.
Friends may call anytime Friday at the Fuhrman Funeral Home in Estherville until 11 a.m. Saturday, when the body will be taken to lie in state at the church. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, May 5, 1971)
