Estherville – Services for Mrs. Ben (Florence) Nelson, 87, Lacey, Wash., formerly of Estherville, will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, at the Henry and Olson Funeral Chapel in Estherville, with Pastor Phil Olson of the Union State Line Lutheran Church officiating.

Interment will follow in the Wallingford Lutheran Cemetery. Friends may call at the Henry and Olson Funeral Home in Estherville after 10 a.m. Wednesday until the time of services.

She died Thursday, March 8, 1984, at Lacey, Wash.

Florence Wensel was born May 2, 1896, at Ceylon, Minn., the daughter of Maxwell and Effie Wensel. She received her education in the Fairmont schools, graduating from high school in 1912, and later graduated from the University of Iowa with an RN degree. She was active in the nursing profession until 1934, when she married Ben M. Nelson, Sept. 15 in Sioux City. The couple lived in Estherville from 1934 to 1945, when they moved to Washington state. He died Feb. 15, 1968.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Lloyd (Olive) Nasby, Alpha, Minn., and Mrs. Stanley (Lola) Hill of Lacey, Wash.; six grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Gladys Radke, Mrs. Fern Hunter and Mrs. Betty Busch, all of Sioux City; and two nieces.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two sisters and one nephew. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, March 12, 1984)
