Estherville – Funeral services for Serena Olene Berg, 87, Estherville, were held 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Henry Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Obert Rust of the Estherville Lutheran Church officiating and burial at the Wallingford Lutheran Church. She died at her home Jan. 29.Miss Berg was born March 25, 1888 in Emmet County to Tosten and Thuri Paulson Berg, the youngest of 10. She lived on the family homestead three miles south of Estherville and was educated in the Emmet County schools. She graduated from Estherville High School, taught in the Berg School on her parent’s farm. Miss Berg, who remained single, later was associated with a sister in millinery stores in Grafton, N.D. and Estherville. Following the death of her sister, she closed the stores and lived in Spirit Lake until 1940 when she returned to Estherville. She was a member of the Estherville Lutheran Church.
Survivors include a niece and nephew in Estherville, Mrs. George (Ruth) Hackett and Wallace T. Berg, and several other nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, nine brothers and sisters. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, February 2, 1976)
