Estherville – Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church south of Gruver for Lena (Mrs. Nels) Meng, 91, who died Aug. 22 at Valley Vue Care Center in Armstrong.

The Rev. Dr. Michael Bennet will conduct the services with burial to follow at the Wallingford Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation is 3 to 9 p.m. today at the Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home in Estherville.

Mrs. Meng was born in Swan Lake Township April 7, 1896, the daughter of Knute and Engar (Peterson) Aanonson. She received her education in the rural Emmet County Bolstad School and was married to Nels Meng Aug. 27, 1942 at Jackson, Minn.

She was born, raised and lived and farmed on the same farm all of her life in Swan Lake Township. She was a resident of Valley Vue Care Center at Armstrong since 1973 when the couple retired from farming.

Lena was a lifetime member of the Immanuel Evangelical Church.

She is survived by two nephews and several cousins, and was preceded in death by her husband who died March 18, 1974, and by her parents, two brothers (Peter K. Aanonson and Aanon K. Aanonson), a nephew and a niece. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, August 24, 1987)
