Mrs. John Mcguire [Maguire] is Buried
Wallingford, March 28 – Funeral services for Mrs. John McGuire, 29, of Kansas City, Kans., a former resident here, were held this afternoon in the East Riverside church with the Rev. Peder Nordsletten the pastor , officiating. Burial was made in the Riverside cemetery.

Mrs. McGuire, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gus Gilbert of Wallingford, died in her Kansas City, Kans. home Thursday afternoon following an illness of about two years.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she is survived by three sisters and two brothers. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, March 28, 1936)

Obituary
The funeral of the late Mrs. John Maguire, formerly known as Miss Odena Gilbert, was held on Saturday, March 28th, at the Riverside Church near Wallingford, Iowa. A brief service was conducted at the parental home in Wallingford at 2:30 p.m. in charge of the local pastor, Rev. Peder Nordsletten. The service proper was held at the church one mile east of Wallingford at 3:00 p.m. A men’s quartette sang during the service and likewise at the grave. The men who composed this quartette were the following: Alfred Ness, Norman Larson, Amos Egeland, and Sherman Gunderson. Mr. Norman Larson also sang a solo during the church service, as likewise did Rev. Nordsletten.

A large audience was present to show their token of sympathy toward the bereaved ones and to manifest also their evidence of respect toward the one who used to live among them, but now gone. Many beautiful flowers decked the casket and adorned the church. $12.00 was given to various missions in memory of the departed. The young men, who served as the pall-bearers were J.G. Gunderson, Norman Mickelson, Frank Benish, Lester Larson, Elmer Ellefson and Chester Paulson.

Odena Alphia Gilbert, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gus Gilbert, was born on November 24, 1906, [per cemetery records, November 23] near Wallingford, Iowa. During childhood she attended the rural school near her home and later on she attended the Estherville High School from which she graduated in the spring of 1926.

On September 23, 1933, she was married to John D. Maguire. Since her marriage she has resided mostly in Kansas City, Mo., where her husband was manager of a department store. Mrs. Maguire passed away peaceably after a long illness at her home Thursday, March 26, 1936. She attained the age of 29 years, 4 months and 2 days. She leaves to mourn her passing, her bereaved husband, John D. Maguire; her sorrowing parents, Mr. and Mrs. Gus Gilbert and her sisters and brothers; Mrs. Franklin of Iowa Falls, Mrs. Sam Natterstad of Estherville; Mrs. L.W. Ladd of Mason City; F.T. Gilbert of Petersburg, Nebr. and Rudolph Gilbert of Chicago, Ill. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, April 1, 1936)
