Estherville – Funeral services for Mrs. Bertha Helena Maaland, 77, Estherville, will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the Wallingford Lutheran Church with the Rev. Wesley Brodin officiating and burial at the Riverside Cemetery Wallingford.Mrs. Maaland was born July 11, 1897 in Norway to Mr. and Mrs. Iver Ness and moved to the Story City area with her parents at the age of nine. She was married to Ingebirt Maaland at Sibley on September 29, 1915 and they had farmed in the Cylinder, Ruthven and Emmetsburg areas before Mr. Maaland died on July 14, 1962. Mrs. Maaland has been a resident of the Good Samaritan Center for several years.
Survivors include one son, Glen, Cylinder; four daughters, Mrs. Albert (Margaret) Duhn, Spirit Lake; Mrs. Hugh (Blanche) McEvoy, Colorado Springs, Colo; Mrs. Earl (Ihleen) Cox, Aloha, Ore.; and Mrs. Clyde (Ruthie) Symington, Ruthven; 27 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; three brothers, Gilbert, Leonard and Aadne Ness, Estherville; and one sister, Mrs. Chester Anderson, Wallingford.
She was preceded in death by her husband, one son, two daughters, two grandchildren, two brothers and one sister.
Friends may call at the Furhman Funeral Home, Estherville, until 11 a.m. Thursday when the body will be taken to the church. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, May 28, 1975)
