Former County Resident Dies at Emmetsburg
Funeral services for I.G. Maaland, 68, Emmetsburg, formerly of Twelve Mile Lake Township, are to be Tuesday at 2 p.m. in Bethany Lutheran Church in Emmetsburg. Mr. Maaland died Saturday [July 14, 1962] afternoon while undergoing surgery. Friends may call at the Ellsworth Funeral Home at Emmetsburg until noon tomorrow at which time the body will be taken to the church to lie in state until time of the services. The casket will not be opened after the service. Survivors include his widow; one son, Glen Maaland, Cylinder; four daughters, Mr. Earl (Eileen) Cox, Hawaii, formerly of Estherville; Mrs. Clyde (Ruth) Symington, Cylinder; Mrs. Albert (Margaret) Duhn, Spirit Lake; Mrs. Hugh (Blanche) McEvoy, Creston; 15 grandchildren and one great grandchild. He was preceded in death by one son and two infant daughters. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, July 16, 1962)

I.G. Maaland, 68, Dies Here; Hold Funeral Tuesday
Funeral services for I.G. Maaland, 68, of Emmetsburg who died Saturday at Palo Alto Memorial hospital of a coronary following major surgery will be held today (Tuesday) at 2 o’clock at the Bethany Lutheran church with the Rev. Erling A. Hansen officiating.

Burial will be in Riverside cemetery at Wallingford with the Ellsworth-Beiter funeral home in charge of arrangements. The casket will be taken to the church at noon where it will remain until the time of services.

Ingebrit G. Maaland was born in Stavanger, Norway, Oct. 23, 1893, son of Guttorm and Gurnia Maaland. He was married to Bertha Ness at Sibley on Sept. 29, 1915. Mr. and Mrs. Maaland farmed near Depew and in Emmet county before coming to Emmetsburg March 1, 1961, at which time Mr. Maaland retired from farming.

Survivors include his wife and five children: Glen Maaland of Cylinder, Mrs. Albert Duhn of Spirit Lake, Mrs. Hugh McEvoy of Creston, Mrs. Earl Cox of Hawaii and Mrs. Clyde Simingto of Cylinder. Also surviving are 19 grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and one sister, Gunhild Maaland of Stavanger, Norway.

Mr. Maaland was preceded in death by his parents, one son, George, and two infant daughters.

During the services Thomas Bratland will sing “What a Friend We Have In Jesus” and “God Will Take Care of You.” He will be accompanied by Mrs. Lester Larson, organist.

Pallbearers will include Irvin Maaland, Dennis Maaland, Allan Duhn, Robert Ness, Arlin Ness and Odne Stokka. (Emmetsburg Reporter, Emmetsburg, IA, July 17, 1962)
