Estherville – Andrew S. Karns, 69, Estherville, died Tuesday [May 19, 1981] evening at Holy Family Hospital. Services for Mr. Karns are pending at the Henry and Olson Funeral Home, Estherville. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, May 20, 1981

Estherville – Services for Andrew S. Karns, 69, Estherville, will be 2 p.m. Friday at the Henry and Olson Funeral Home, Estherville, with the Rev. L.L. Osborn and the Rev. Dan Swanson officiating. Interment will be in the Riverside Cemetery at Wallingford.

Mr. Karns died Tuesday evening, at Holy Family Hospital.

Friends may call at the funeral home until time of services. Masonic services will be held at 7:30 o’clock tonight at the funeral home.

The son of Andrew and Bertha Karns, he was born Feb. 10, 1912, at Rosalie, Neb., and later moved to the Des Moines and Omaha, Neb. areas with his family, where he received most of his education.

He was married to Edna Wymore Powers on Jan. 28, 1939, at Des Moines and the couple moved west, where Mr. Karns was employed in shipyards at Vallejo and Kaiser, Calif., during World War II. Following the war they returned to the Omaha area and then moved to Estherville, where he was employed by the John Morrell and Company for 25 years until retiring in1977.

He was a member of the Masonic Blue Lodge, Order of Eastern Star, White Shrine, Commandry and Chapter, Royal Arch Abu Bekr Temple and served on the AFL-CIO Labor Council and as secretary-treasuerer for the Northwest Iowa Labor Council.

Mr. Karns is survived by his wife, Edna, Estherville; two sons, John Karns, Sioux City, and Floyd Karns, Estherville; two step-sons, Fred Powers, Thayer, and Robert Powers, Stockton, Calif.; three step daughters, Mrs. Ernest (Lois) Lee Modale, Mary Jane Powers, Westfield, Mass., and Mrs. Martha Williams, Duxbury, Mass.; 23 grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; one niece and one nephew.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, may 21, 1981)
