Mrs. J.O. Kasa
Mrs. J.O. Kasa, whose maiden name was Anna Bergeson, was born at Waseca, Minn., on April 28, 1866. She was baptized in the Lutheran faith. While only a few years old, she with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Nels Bergeson moved with oxen and covered wagon to Ottertail county, Minn., and settled there on a homestead, living in a “dugout,” which was later replaced by a log house. She grew to womanhood under the simple surroundings of pioneer life, and at the age of fifteen she was confirmed by the Rev. J.O. Kasa, of the Hauges Synod, father of her husband, J.O. Kasa.

She was graduated from the district grade school, there being no privilege for further schooling in the newly settled community. As she was the oldest of a family of eight children, she had to help with much of the field work, which work agreed with her and made her physically strong and healthy, which was a blessing through her entire life, as well as to her family.

On July 2, 1887, at the age of 21, she was united in marriage to J.O. Kasa at the home of the Rev. J.O. Kasa, near Fergus Falls, Minn. Pastor B.B. Haugan, a fellow-student of J.O. Kasa, officiated at the marriage ceremony. To the union were born 10 children, five boys and five girls: Jamie, Hilda, Helmer, Norris, Florence, Melvina, Odell, Leonard, Ruby and Curtie.

Mr. and Mrs. Kasa came to the Wallingford community in 1887 and have been members of the Wallingford Lutheran church in which Mrs. Kasa took an active part. She took suddenly ill on her 79th birthday, April 28 and on Friday evening, May 18, she suffered a stroke from which she did not rally, and passed peacefully away on Tuesday evening, May 22, at 6 p.m.

She is preceded in death by a son, Norris, a serviceman of World War I, who passed away in the Service on Oct. 7, 1918. Also by one daughter, Hilda, at that time the wife of Charles Heidecker at Sherburn, Minn., who died in the flu epidemic. She is survived by her husband, J.O. Kasa; eight children, Jamie of Estherville, Helmer of Des Moines, Leonard of Chicago, Curtie of Revere, Minn.; Mrs. Don Tullar, Berkley, Calif., Mrs. Melvina Sarazen of Estherville, Mrs. Norris Nelson of Fort Dodge, and Mrs. Emory Wilson of Wallingford; also 16 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
