Gustav Gilbert Dies at Home in Wallingford
Fails to Recover After Stroke

Gustav Gilbert died at his home in Wallingford yesterday at 1 p.m. His death was the result of a stroke which he suffered three months ago.

Mr. Gilbert was born Feb. 20, 1868, in Elgin, Iowa. He married Barbara Sando at Wallingford, Sept. 21, 1893. He lived with his family on a farm west of Wallingford for 32 years, and in 1925 he retired and moved to Wallingford where he lived until the time of his death.

He was a member of the Lutheran church.

Mr. Gilbert is survived by his widow, five children, Mrs. E.A. Franken of Iowa Falls, F.H. Gilbert of Irvington, Ala., Mrs. Sam Natterstad of Wallingford, the Rev. R.W. Gilbert of Cedar Rapids and Mrs. S.W. Ladd of Mason City; two sisters, Mrs. Rognus and Mrs. Bilden of Minneapolis and one brother, Hans, of Arkansas. Two daughters, Luella and Odena preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1:30 at the home and 2 p.m. at the Lutheran church of Wallingford. The Rev. L.G. Hinderaker will have charge of the services and burial will be in the Wallingford cemetery. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, August 24, 1942)

Well Known in Wallingford Community

Gustav Gilbert, 74, retired farmer of High Lake township, died at his home in Wallingford Sunday. He had suffered a cerebral hemorrhage May 15 from which he failed to recover.

Mr. Gilbert, well and favorably known during his many years of residence in Emmet county, was born on Feb. 20, 1868 at Elgin, Iowa.

Burial was made at Wallingford, yesterday. Rev. Hinderalur gave the sermon. (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, August 27, 1942)
