Mrs. Guri Paulson
Mrs. Guri Paulson, the aged mother of Mrs. H.K. Groth, died at the home of the latter on Saturday, November second. Mrs. Paulson was born in Norway on the twenty-fourth day of September, 1816, and came to this country with her husband, Lewis Paulson, in the year 1857, and located on a farm in Dane county, Wisconsin. They resided in that county but three years and moved to Emmet county in the year 1860, arriving here on the same day with the late Hon. Howard Graves. Mr. Paulson took a homestead on section thirty-six of Estherville township and lived there continuously until Mr. Paulson’s death in the year 1893. Mrs. Paulson lived on the farm until about five years ago when she moved to this city to reside with the daughter, Mrs. H.K. Groth.Mr. and Mrs. Paulson were married in Norway in the year 1843 and to this happy union there were born eight children, of which there are only two living, Mrs. H.K. Groth and Mrs. T.O. Berg, both residing in this city.
For a lady of Mrs. Paulson’s years she was exceptionally active and up to the time of an injury she sustained something over a year ago, she was in perfect health. Since the injury she has not been strong. She was a lady that adapted herself to her surrounding and being of a pleasant disposition and very kind and motherly, she naturally drew many close friends around her, that always comforted her in her declining years.
The funeral services were held from the Groth home on South Tenth street, on Monday last, Rev. Paulsrud officiating, and the remains were laid to rest in the cemetery at Wallingford. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, November 5, 1913)
