Obituary
On Sept. 15th, Miss Emma Berg, aged 24 years, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. T.O. Berg, departed from this life to the better life in the hereafter after an illness of several months of the dread disease consumption. An hour before she passed away she asked her father to be at her bedside, and hold her hand saying that if her sight grew dim she seemed to feel that the Saviour was holding her hand and that he would safely lead her home. She often fell asleep awakening to have seen heavenly visions. Her last articulate words were in prayer that “Jesus would come soon.” During her suffering she never complained, having put her trust in God, and said, “Thy will be done.” She was a young lady of sterling qualities and loved by all who knew her, and one of the most popular young ladies in the Lutheran church. She was laid in her last resting place at the Wallingford cemetery Thursday afternoon, a large number of friends gathering who showed their esteem for her by the many beautiful flowers that were placed on her grave.

The funeral services were conducted by Rev. H. Engh, assisted by Rev. L.J. Hauge. – Contributed by A.T. Juveland. (Semi-weekly Northern Vindicator, Estherville, IA, September 22, 1896)
