Woman Dies at Hospital
Mrs. Elma Thorena Peterson, 70, died at 11:50 p.m. Sunday [May 9, 1965] at Holy Family Hospital where she had been a patient for two weeks. She had been in failing health since suffering a stroke about a year ago.She was born Feb. 3, 1895, northwest of Wallingford, the daughter of Severt and Gunda Sevatson. She received her education in the Wallingford school and was married may 10, 1915 to John Peterson at Graettinger.
They farmed in the Wallingford and Graettinger area until moving to Estherville 18 years ago. Mr. Peterson died in 1958. Mrs. Peterson was a lifelong member of the Lutheran church, being baptized and confirmed at the Wallingford Lutheran Church. She has been a member of Estherville Lutheran Church for the last 18 years.
She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Chris (Mildred) Martinson of Estherville; one son, Gerhard Peterson, also of Estherville; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Other survivors are five sisters, Mrs. Bertha Wigton of Enumclau, Wash., Mrs. Marvin (Gena) Miller of Sumner, Wash., Mrs. Anna Pecor of San Diego, Calif., Mrs. Emma Anderson of Estherville; two brothers, Steven Sevatson of Carson and Lewis Sevatson of Wallingford.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, John; one daughter, Myrtle; two brothers, Martin and Carl; and one great-grandson.
Services are planned for 2 p.m. Wednesday at Estherville Lutheran Church with Rev. Roy Hendrickson officiating. Burial will be in the Wallingford cemetery.
Friends may call at Fuhrman Funeral Home any time Tuesday until noon Wednesday when the body will be taken to the church to lie in state. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, May 10, 1965)
