Geo. Hively, a farmer living about five miles southwest of town, died Saturday [December 30, 1893] night, after a lingering illness, resulting from cancer of the bowels. Everyone spoke highly of him as a man. He was 38 years old and a member of the Masonic and K.P. societies, having some $1000 insurance in the former. He was taken to Rockwell, Cerro Gordo county, his hold home, for burial. (Emmet County Republican, Estherville, IA, January 4, 1894)
