Estherville – Funeral services for Rex M. Anderson, 80, of Ringsted will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, June 18 at Calvary Gospel Assembly in Estherville with full military graveside rites by VFW, American Legion and AMVETS Posts of Estherville. He died on Thursday, June 14, 2001 at Avera Holy Family Hospital in Estherville.

Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. on Sunday at Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home in Estherville.

Rex was born on June 20, 1920 in Reinbeck, the son of Samuel and Clara Hazel (Minton) Anderson. He moved to Emmet County at a young age. He received his education in the country schools in Jack Creek Township. Rex received his mechanical certification from the United States Army.

On Dec. 30, 1943, Rex was united in marriage to Mary Elizabeth Clymer in Jackson, Minn. He served in the United States Army during World War II. After his discharge in 1945, he returned to Estherville and farmed in Emmet County until his retirement in 1996.

He did custom farm work for many years. Rex also was employed as a mechanic for Robinson and Donovon Motors and a mechanic and later a salesman for Motor Inn, all of Estherville.

Rex attended Calvary Gospel Assembly in Estherville. He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post #3388 and an Emmet County Farm Bureau member.

He enjoyed restoring antique cars, tractors and auto racing.

Rex is survived by his wife, Mary of Ringsted; three daughters, Patricia Kruse of Seattle, Wash., Susan Jensen and her husband, Mike of Estherville and Diana Reiter and her husband, Joe of Wallingford; one son, Rex Anderson, Jr. and his wife, Jennifer of Estherville; 15 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; one brother, Gail Anderson and his wife, Lenore of Omaha, Neb.; four sisters, Charlotte Matthes of Clinton, Mo., Elizabeth Varcura of Jackson, Edith Clabaugh of Estherville and Margaret Clabaugh of Dolliver; three sisters-in-law, Blanche Julifs of Pomeroy, Bernadine Stifel of Waukee and Jean Clymer of Estherville; one brother-in-law Chuck Clymer of Armstrong and cousins, nieces, nephews and grandchildren’s spouses.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Stuart; one sister, Marilyn and several in-laws, Dora Anderson, Ray Varcura, Alton and Alvin Clabaugh, Fred Julifs, George Clymer, George Stifel, Marvea Clymer and Wayne Matthes, Jr. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, June 15, 2001)
